“WomanCode” by Alisa Vitti is May’s Athletic Bookworm Pick

by | May 2, 2018 | Mindset, Training

Since it’s May and a) I’m doing a ton of women’s nights at shops and b) it’s Mother’s Day this month, reading a book like “WomanCode” by Alisa Vitti made perfect sense! In “WomanCode: Perfect Your Cycle, Amplify Your Fertility, Supercharge Your Sex Drive, and Become a Power Source,”  holistic health coach Alisa Vitti shows women how to maintain health and vitality with a food-based program to rebalance their hormones. The food-based program is pretty similar to that in February’s read, Wired to Eat, but with a whole lot more women-specific science… Actually, think of this one a little bit like combining ROAR, January’s read, with Wired to Eat!

So, the blurb about it: “Whether you are suffering from irregular periods, fertility issues, depression, or lack of sex drive, Alisa Vitti says that meds and anti-depressants aren’t the only solutions. Groundbreaking and informative, WomanCode educates women about hormone health in a way that’s relevant and easy to understand. Author Alisa Vitti found herself suffering through the symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and was able to heal herself through food and lifestyle changes. Relieved and reborn, she made it her mission to empower other women to be able to do the same.”

Confession: I already started reading this in the last couple months, because to be honest, I’ve been feeling a little hormonally out of whack for a few years. Nothing major, but like something is slightly off, or could be better. This is a bit of a tangent, but I do think when you lead a super healthy life in general, you start realizing when things aren’t feeling how you want them to. For me, the last decade has been all about random muscle cramps, random stomach pain issues, and anxiety that seems to track pretty closely with the ups and downs of my hormone cycles. So the fact that there are now so many books like this on the market helping women work towards a hormone balance WITHOUT using medications or even suggestions laundry lists of herbal supplements, is really exciting to me.

So, if you’re a female athlete with some hormone-related questions plaguing you even after reading ROAR in January, I think this one is worth the read. Like I said I cheated and read ahead, and I can say that so far, it’s been great!
