What is the Consummate Athlete?
Con·sum·mate /ˈkänsəmət/
showing a high degree of skill and flair; complete or perfect.
Ath·lete /ˈaTH(ə)ˌlēt/
a person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise.
When we came up with the name Consummate Athlete, we knew it might be a little confusing (and maybe a little accidentally sexy). But we loved it because it encapsulated the type of athlete we wanted to be ourselves: Athletes who were well-rounded, who understood their bodies and, in addition to working towards goals in specific cycling disciplines, could go off on adventures with friends and keep up.
Who CA Is For?
Everyone can be a Consummate Athlete, whether you’re a busy executive, a working parent or a full-time athlete. Whether you’re hoping to PR at Leadville or keep up with the local group ride, we’re here to help. Here, your goals matter—and we can make them happen.
The CA Difference
Our strange sounding name is what sets us apart from other cycling coaches: We want our athletes to be well-rounded, strong and healthy—in addition to being fast on the bike. We are firm believers in the power of cross-training in addition to training for your specific sport. We love to see mountain bikers getting out to run and spending time in the gym working on their pull-ups and deadlifts. We think it’s awesome when a gravel racer wants to do some backcountry ski adventures in the winter instead of putting in long hours on the trainer.
We also want to help our audience learn. Whether you work with coach Peter Glassford one on one as a monthly client, subscribe to our weekly podcast or read our blogs where we cover all things training and racing, or use one of our premade or custom training plans, you’ll become part of our community.

Our goal is to help busy adults achieve their biggest off-road cycling goals while also developing long term health + happiness through movement.
Mission
We believe in a multi-faceted approach to being your healthiest, happiest, most active version of yourself, harnessing the power of finding community, consistency and confidence in cycling while adding in cross-training for fun and fitness. And we believe that everyone can be a consummate athlete.
The 4 C’s
We believe that cycling can create Community and build Confidence. We believe that Consistency is the key to reaching any goal. And we really, really believe in Cross-training, no matter what that goal is. We also believe that anyone can be a consummate athlete and a fantastic cyclist, no matter how old or young, busy or free, seasoned or totally new to the sport they are.
Who’s behind the Consummate Athlete?
Meet Peter Glassford and Molly Hurford. Peter’s been a cycling coach for 20+ years now, while Molly’s been writing about endurance sports for the same time span. 10 years ago, the Canadian mountain biker and the cyclocrossing New Jersey native met at a bike race in China (seriously) and while it wasn’t exactly love at first sight, it was pretty darn close. Since then, they’ve combined passions, businesses, and their lives to create The Consummate Athlete. With our powers combined, 8 years ago we decided to launch the Consummate Athlete Podcast (and get married).
