Weekly Race Training Plan

One of our most unique training plans is our 16 week Weekly Mountain Bike Race Training Plan, or what we call the ‘Weekly World Champ’ Plan!

This plan is designed for novice/intermediate cyclists who are focused on racing weekly mountain bike (or cyclocross) races. It provides 2 months of preparation and 2 months of racing (~16 weeks of training). The plan helps avoid the trap of doing too much intensity on top of races by providing alternate workouts for race night and lots of endurance around race day(s). It encourages walking/yoga, core, technical skill and low-intensity. It also includes guidance on race preparation, testing, fueling, strength training, and cross-training tips.

Is This Cycling Plan For You?

It is designed for busy people who have 5-8 hours of training most weeks with some flexibility to do more on the weekend. It has worked great for beginner and intermediate riders, or advanced riders looking for a more time limited plan. 

This plan is 4 months long and is best started 2 months before your weekly race series starts so you can build your fitness and skills up before the series starts and then train effectively around your weekly races. Feel free to copy/modify hte plan to get through your full weekly race series -OR- reach out for a phone consultation or 3-month Made for You Plan to extend your training through your season.

The Consummate Athlete philosophy involves being healthy and prepared, as well as developing specific fitness for the event. In line with this the plan provides reminders and suggestions to prepare for stage racing (gear, nutrition, travel etc.) AND encourages you to strength train and walk in addition to your bike training.

 

Different Goal? 

If your main focus is not weekly race series domination and/or you have big weekend race goals we have other plans that are for 100 milers or marathons or xco. (See all of our plans here )

 

What Does this Mountain Bike Plan Include?

Guidance on adjusting workouts and what is important for different phases of the year.

Structured Workout Downloads are included for most bike workouts ( for Garmin / Zwift Etc ). If you are going to train indoors for some workouts or would like to put workouts on your bike computer. *some workouts will not have a download to keep thing simple and provide freedom from focus and devices! (e.g. ride endurance for 3 hours).

A basic core routine is provided and encouraged throughout the plan.

You can use this plan by HR, Power or RPE. It is ideal to use all 3 but you can use any of the 3 and still have great success
