As a couple who just had to turn around and drive 30 min because Peter forgot his helmet AND shoes yesterday, I really needed to write—and follow—this story on your go-to ride bag. I’ve been good about having a “go bag” that’s sort of ready for most sports, including cycling and swimming, but of course, we had it in our other car. But anyway… over at Bicycling, they asked me to list the emergency gear you should always have at the ready to jump into a ride, anytime and anywhere. There are some obvious things in it (a helmet, shoes) but some stuff you might not have thought of (ahem, pedals for a borrowed bike situation). I do love a good packing story, so this was a great one for me—and I think there are some surprising things in there that will make your ride infinitely better. (And the best part is that you can mostly make this up with old gear and use it as an excuse to buy some new swag!)
