Everyone knows I love books by Chris McDougall—and Running with Sherman: The Donkey with the Heart of a Hero is no exception! You might have noticed that the last couple of months, I didn’t post any new Athletic Bookworm picks. I’m stepping back from doing that on a monthly basis—it takes a ton of time—but as a huge bookworm, I’m obviously still reading a ton! So, instead, I’ll be doing a lot more short posts highlighting books I’m already reading and my thoughts on them so far. So, a little less deeply involved than my notes and reviews I’ve done in the past (you can see all of them here!) and a little more ‘bite-sized’ thoughts so you can decide if you want to read the book as well!
Athletic Bookworm Pick: Natural Born Heroes by Christopher McDougall
This month, I’m obsessed with the just-released Running with Sherman: The Donkey with the Heart of a Hero. The book is fascinating—classic McDougall, though way more about him personally than Born to Run or Natural Born Heroes. It will make you want to race burros, but it will also just make you want to connect more with the people and animals in your life. (It definitely boosted my argument for why I need a dog… and maybe a donkey.)

If you’re looking for a book to read that will inspire you but not feel too “oh crap, why am I not out training RIGHT NOW,” this is the book to read this fall. And it’s out today so get it NOW!
