If you’re waiting on the Kindle edition of Mindful Running to come out before you dig in, I’m going to add an alternative read to the Athletic Bookworm’s bookshelf. I had to read “The Urban Monk: Eastern Wisdom and Modern Hacks to Stop Time and Find Success, Happiness, and Peace” when I was about to interview author Pedram Shojai for Bicycling magazine a couple of years ago, and I ended up loving it so much that I reread it regularly to remind myself of some of the awesome habits he advises people to pick up. It’s a practical guide, taking Eastern philosophy and molding it to fit our ridiculous lives and make us a little healthier and happier.
And man, is that guy happy! I was lucky that I got to actually sit down and interview Pedram in person and he is actually one of the authors that a) walks the walk, and b) is exactly what you’re hoping he or she will be like, but doubt that you’ll be so lucky. I had the best time chatting with him, but I actually had an even better time reading some of his advice, if I’m being honest. He’s a great writer, and I loved that he wasn’t taking himself super seriously, and wasn’t putting himself in the position of the guy who had it 110% figured out. He just has some great suggestions—and smart suggestions. It’s one of the reasons I started getting into—and actually adapting the habit—of meditating!
Anyway, this is an awesome book… And it’s on sale for only $2.99 in the Kindle edition, so you’re crazy if you don’t snag a copy ASAP! I’ll post some discussion questions to go along with reading this, but I really wanted to get people taking advantage of the sale. To be honest, I was going to recommend it as a potential read, and that’s why I was checking it out… but then I saw the price and it was like a sign.
I think anyone who was into the idea of reading Mindful Running (PLEASE STILL READ IT WHEN THE KINDLE EDITION DROPS, IT IS AMAZING) will love this book as well—and if it gets you meditating or doing something else good for your body and mind before December 28 when Havey’s book is out on Kindle, that’s just setting you up for a New Year of mindful running and life!
