I loved writing about what pro marathoners were planning to eat the night before, the day of, and during the Chicago marathon earlier this month for Outside. What I was super stoked on was a) that pre-race, almost every runner I talked to was ALL about pizza! and b) during the race, one of them actually swears by one of my personal favorite drink mixes, and at the high level, most of them are running and just using drink mix versus solid foods. Super interesting to realize, like when I was interviewing pros for Fuel Your Ride, that everyone has personal preferences and nutritional needs, but the diets of the top pros don’t deviate from each other very much. It’s a really illuminating piece if you’re trying to figure out how to fuel a marathon, so I highly recommend checking it out!
