You know when you find a random company as you’re down a hashtag spiral, and fall completely in love with their whole vibe/aesthetic/story/everything? Yep, I love Redfrog, a women’s cycling apparel company founded by Jaimee Erikson with the mission statement: “Redfrog Athletics was founded with a relentless sense of adventure and one goal: equip you with functional, stylish, dual-purpose cycling apparel, so you can feel confident and comfortable on and off your bicycle.”
Umm, YES, please!
I freaking love any article of clothing that works on and off the bike seamlessly, and when I checked out the Commuter Jacket, I knew it was going to be a winner. All of their gear is made with merino wool, so a) it’s super comfy and soft, and b) it’s great for moisture-wicking and doesn’t smell terrible, even after a 20-hour day of travel with a lot of sweating involved.
It’s also all black (YES!) and one of the most flattering pieces of cycling clothing I’ve tried. It has a gorgeous droopy turtleneck, which both gives the jacket a really unique look and serves to feel cozy as heck at chilly races. It has typical jersey pockets for your ride, plus two zippered front pockets for when you’re walking/running. I’ve been riding and running and walking EVERYWHERE in this jacket since we’ve been in Belgium and it’s been amazing.
I’m usually not thrilled with jerseys for running, but this one stays in place (most of them ride up). It’s long enough that I’m always covered—hard to find in a standard hoodie, and the rubber gripper in the back really does keep it in place and avoids bunching. Also, I love a good thumbhole at the end of sleeves, so I was super happy that Jaimee had that in the design.
If you’re like me and pretty much live in black hoodies, I can’t say enough great things about this one. And right now, it’s on sale for $187 from $265, and I have to say, it’s now even MORE worth it as a splurge!
