Leadville MTB Training Plans

by | Jan 21, 2020 | Training

So you got into the Leadville 100 Mile Mountain race. Now that you are past the stress of getting in you are likely thinking–how the heck will I prepare for the Leadville 100?

Get excited about the training for Leadville!

Why are you doing Leadville? Is it just for the finish line or is it for the skills you will develop in the coming months, the adventures you will go on in your training, and for the abilities and mindsets that completing these next 3 – 6 months will bring you, regardless of how the Leadville race goes? This mindset of ‘failing forward’ frees you to train with purpose and curiosity. By putting as much focus and importance on your training and adventures you will make sure this Leadville journey is enjoyable and beneficial.

Leadville for the rest of us

You can finish, we believe anyone can do it BUT if you just train as you feel without a gradual progression and without taking on specific training interventions you are going to miss many gains that can help you on race day. For many adults any advantage will help to stay under the difficult 12 hour time ‘belt buckle’ time cut and 13 hour results time cut.

The race itself is more than 1 day in Colorado, it represents a lot of time training and preparing. A plan matters.

The plans I build are not just to get you to survive 1 day but rather push you to prepare for the goal both on bike and off-bike. You will do Core/Strength and do a lot of preparation and visualization for event day. As a busy person, it is unlikely you can do huge amounts of riding volume but you can arrive healthier, confident, prepared, and more skilled.
