Thank you Mike – great to have that athlete tested experience with the Scosche and to know that you are using Steve’s training means you are using HR very closely so any issues would be annoying and not tolerated! (have added to my list of devices for clients)

Please keep in touch and let us know if any suggestions for guests or content we can work to get onto the show!

I like your podcast a lot. As I get older (51) having fitness as a healthy person instead of just a cyclist is more important than ever.

I have raced with the Scosche in cyclocross races and crits and it has worked fine (no dropouts and stays on my arm). My max HR was on par with all previous data. When I first bought it, I did 1-2 workouts with both Scosche and garmin chest strap and the data matched. For interval workouts I use power and have the HR strap for a ceiling in intervals (following Steve Neal’s recommendations). I also ride off road (mountain bike and gravel) and the strap stays in place unlike the chest strap that I am constantly adjusting. I normally have it on my upper arm so that it is under my jersey sleeve so I don’t have yet another weird tanline.:)

Appreciate that experience Mike (and the listen!) —> Will add that device to the ‘tested’ list I have.

If you have time for a follow up Question (or 4): Have you raced with it and/or compared it to a HR strap ? Or do you use it for intervals that are HR based? and/or do you ride on off-road terrain?

On the Scosche, I put it either on my upper forearm just below my elbow or on my bicep. Both these spots work better than on my wrist since there is more muscle to bone at those points. I’ve had mine for over 5 years and works great. I will never go back to uncomfortable chest straps.
