Our Consummate Athlete 2020 Fall Gear Wish List

by | Aug 13, 2020 | Gear

Back to school is looking a little different this year, obviously, but that doesn’t change my love for all things back to school shopping. It’s still boiling hot out, but since we’re up in Ontario, I know it’s only a matter of weeks before temps start to drop, and I’m already starting to think a bit about how to stay cozy, especially since it seems like we’ll be staying more local this fall and winter rather than our usual ‘sneak to somewhere warm.’ So, what gear am I getting excited about?

Glerups Clogs

My North Face booties were my MVP winter product last year, but for fall, I’m thinking I’d love something that suits the shoulder season and falls between flipflops and winter booties for quick trips out to walk the pup, long drives, or just hanging out since we’re not exactly dressing up much these days and bonfire hangouts with takeout pizza have been more our speed. So I’m digging these slip on cozy clogs that are almost slippers but a bit heartier from glerups. (I’m torn between the shoe and slipper options, if I’m being honest, since I love the idea of clogs but always get kerfuffled with what socks to wear.)

Pearl Izumi Rove Men’s Flannel

This casual riding button up is actually one of Peter’s favorite things, and I have to admit, it looks pretty darn good on him. It’s great for cooler trail rides, especially ones that are immediately followed by happy hour! Honestly, I’d buy him another one of these in a different color because the fit is super good and it’s held up really well through some serious rides.

PrAna Cozy Up Dress

I’ve listed the cozy up sweatshirt in previous fall lists, and this short sleeve cozy up dress in the same super soft knit fabric is on my wishlist heading into this fall. With all the quarantine and social distancing stuff, I’ve basically started to exist in only pajamas or running/cycling kit, but a dress like this one is a lot more casually wearable even for hanging out at home! (I normally don’t love brands’ attempts at ‘athletic dresses’ but this one feels more casual dressy, not ‘hiker-wearing-a-dress.’ I’m starting to get to the ‘ok, time to get some new sweatpants/shorts/etc.’ mode as I wear through my favorites (and DW gnaws on them…)

New Notebook

I can’t start a school year without a new notebook! After hearing Haley Smith talk about her journaling–in particular, her confidence journal–I naturally added some of her suggestions to my already-in-place journaling practice. And a new year means a new notebook (also I finally ran out of the cheap package of notebooks I  had gotten in Europe a couple years ago that I loved and bulk-bought). I really like the 5x8in size for ease of carrying around, while still being large enough to hold meaningful amounts of writing. So, I’m eyeing this one from Paperage that appears to be just the right size and is a perfectly decent price!

Velocio Harvest Ultralight Jersey

Most people know that I love Velocio’s bib shorts (they pull down for easy peeing!), but I’m also a huge fan of their jerseys. They’re always wicked comfortable and super flattering, and I’m a huge fan of the new Harvest collection — I really like the dark purple (it’s similar to the rad Shred Girls jersey!) but the burnt orange is another favorite. In fact, I’d also drop a recommendation for their burnt orange long sleeve jersey here as well because it’s the only colorful jersey I own and I absolutely adore it:

Side note: for anyone who says Velocio is out of their price range, their foundation bib short is only $129. BUY IT.

Shred Girls: Ali’s Rocky Ride

It’s here! The second book in the Shred Girls series came out this summer and if your Shred Girl hasn’t read it yet, might I recommend it for some riding motivation?
