If you’re new to the high mileage game, i.e training for your first marathon or ultra, it’s amazing how important lifestyle factors become. You can fake it through a 10K or even a half marathon, but when your mileage goes up, things like your immunity and your overall feelings of fatigue and ability to recover enough between runs really starts to take a huge dive. So, I talked to some experts while I was going through this exact situation over the summer prepping for my first ultra, and I am so glad I did. Some is obvious—like getting enough sleep—but sometimes (for me, at least) it takes an expert telling me this before I actually listen. And some stuff that was suggested surprised me!
